Sports: Soccer

Soccer is not a sport that entails a great risk to the back. However, as in many other sports, brisk flexion, extension and torsion movements of the spinal column are made, which may damage it.

Recomendations:

  • Always perform a 15-minute warm-up session before engaging in any exercise activity. Warming-up is essential to prepare our body for further exercise and to avoid injuries. Start by running slowly around the field for a few minutes, then move all the involved joints (hips, knees and ankles) and bend your back forward and sideways with increasing intensity. At last, practice a series of passes and shots with the ball in the direction of the goal but softer than normal.
  • Practice soccer on a soft surface (grass) rather than on a hard one (sand)
  • Use adequate sports footwear, light, firm, adhering and shock resistant.
