Sports: Downhill skiing
Skiing is not a sport that is especially harmful to the back.
It requires that the spinal column be kept in a semi-flexed position.
This can overload the muscles and intervetebral disks, especially
if the back muscles are not strong or if, due to the speed and terrain
over which one is skiing, there is great vibration.

Also, ski jumps increase the vibration suffered by the spinal
column, especially if the knees are not flexed adequately in order
to cushion the impact.
In any case, the better the skiing style, the lesser the risk
of suffering back pain.
It is recommended
To follow an exercise program to develop the spinal column
musculature. Exercises that are adequate for some may prove inadequate
for others; it is therefore convenient to undergo a physical examination
and a muscle assessment by a physician to determine the best program
for each individual case.
To do stretching exercises and some flex movements of the
spinal column before and after skiing.
To ski with the best possible style and controlling the
speed.
To use adequate equipment, in accordance with the type of
skiing that is being practiced and trying to minimize vibration.
To periodically, during the ski outing, carry out movements
that extend the spinal column.
